How It Works
To analyze a blood sample, medical technologists must collect fresh venous whole blood from the patient’s fingertip. The qLabs electrometer works by inserting test strips with a blood sample into the testing platform.
When a test strip is inserted, the device automatically detects it and heats it to a predetermined operating temperature. The blood from the sample well travels along the test channels to the Test Zone and the Control Zone, where the results are read. The blood begins to coagulate in these zones after reacting with pre-printed reagents. Each reaction zone has a pair of electrodes to which the Micropoint qLabs electrometer Q3 applies a constant voltage.
As the blood coagulates, the current monitored across the two electrodes changes. The tester recognizes the shift in the current in the test zone and determines the PT and/or APTT results.
